Embracing social media is route to new business success

PROFESSIONALS need to be social media savvy to make the most of new business opportunities.
That was the advice from Chris Barry, editor of TheBusinessDesk.com, as he addressed pro.manchester members at the latest Meet The Editor event.

chrisbChris, who joined the online news site from the Manchester Evening News in 2008, said being active on sites such as Twitter and LinkedIn could deliver business value.
In the past two months, traffic to TheBusinessDesk has grown by 70 per cent and Chris believes the team’s efforts to have a digital presence has played a part.

He also credited the addition of ‘tenacious newshound’ Mike Fahy, from Crain’s Manchester Business, and the newsdesk’s work to highlight good business news as positive steps.

He added: “We want to forge long-term relationships with professionals and be seen as a trusted, critical friend.”

TheBusinessDesk.com operates in Yorskhire, the North West and West Midlands. There are plans to expand into other regions.
