Manchester ‘can be proud’ of its infrastructure, according to the Lord Mayor of the City of London.

Comparing Manchester to New York and Hong Kong, Alderman Michael Bear told pro.manchester members the city had much to praise.

Speaking at The Midland Hotel on Tuesday, he said: “For every pound spent on a major construction project, £2.84 is created for the UK economy.

“In Manchester, you can be proud of the way you have dealt with your physical environment.”

ALordMayorlderman Bear, the 683rd Lord Mayor of the City of London, said there were five criteria to be considered: availability of skilled people, the regulatory environment, infrastructure, access to international markets and the clustering of businesses.

The Lord Mayor of Manchester spoke of the city’s achievements and ‘modest industrial growth’ and urged the Lord Mayor to look to Manchester as a partner to the Square Mile.

Aldermean Bear, who will visit 23 countries in 90 days as part of his mayoral duties, agreed partnership was the route to future success.

He added: “We want to ensure that the whole is greater than the sum of the parts.”

More than 120 people attended The Midland Hotel to hear from the Lord Mayor of the City of London and to enjoy the pro.manchester Christmas lunch.
