New initiative puts Manchester’s professional women at its core
A new initiative aimed at improving the skills of women in business will be launched next week to members of financial and professional organisation pro.manchester.
pro.women aims to provide practical skills and advice to women working in Greater Manchester the City Region. Through a series of events, women can build upon their business, leadership, presentation and networking skills to give them the tools to compete in a competitive environment.
The first pro.women event will take place on Tuesday 20 July with guest speaker Tracey Pye, partner within the business restructuring division of accountancy firm BDO. Members will be given advice on how to make the most out of networking opportunities and build meaningful business relationships.
Adele Edgar, skills and education manager at pro.manchester, who is behind the new initiative, said:
“There has never been a better time to harness the collective expertise among female professionals in Greater Manchester the City Region. Figures show female entrepreneurs make up 25 per cent of all business owners in the North West,* and this is continuing to grow, proving women will be instrumental in the recovery of the region’s economy. “This is also reflected on an international scale with 15 Fortune 500 companies currently being run by women, compared to 12 the previous year"
“We’ve responded to this trend, listened to our female members and coordinated a series of events which responds to their demands. These discussion groups will give female professionals an opportunity to exchange ideas and knowledge, build upon an existing skills set and gain a competitive edge over others.”
