Manchester students tap into the professional market

Students in Manchester will be given an insight into the region’s financial and professional sector at a careers event on 4 February hosted by future pro·manchester and MMU Business School.

The younger division of pro·manchester, the region’s network of top financial and professional firms, will be advising students at Manchester Metropolitan University Business School on mentoring, interview techniques and offering helpful workshops.

A cross section of employers, including Ernst and Young, Bank of New York Mellon, Barclays, Cobbetts, Pannone, Grant Thornton and IBM, will be available to give first-hand advice on career routes and how to get the all important foot in the door.

Commenting on the event, Alex Solk, chairman of future pro·manchester said: “We’re focusing on skills development and working closely with the professionals of tomorrow to ensure the city retains its top talents.

“By showcasing opportunities offered by businesses in Manchester we aim to grow the sector and reinforce the city’s place in the national and international market.”

Added Lindsay Halliday, placement manager at MMU Business School: “This is a fantastic opportunity for students to network with a wide range of employers to enhance their knowledge of the sector and find out about the opportunities available.

“We have a strong history of working with pro·manchester, who recognise the immediate benefits of helping to develop professionals of the future, and we look forward to developing this relationship further.”

The Placement Fair & Career Development Day took place on Wednesday 4 February, from 12.30pm-3.30pm at the John Dalton Building, Oxford Road.
